The first encounter of the Swedish troops with the Russians

16. November 1700

The Swedish troops having been on the route from Rakvere met the horse cavalry of Boriss Šeremetjev staying on the incursion on Pühajõe. The followed fast battle ended with the victory of the Swedes.

As Šeremetjev received the order not to enter to the battle with the Swedish leading army, the Russians withdrew without resistance to Sillamäe.

According to the later Swedish military propaganda poster the Estonian farmer Stephan Raabe (Ronga Tehvan) had been the guide of the Swedes, by taking them through the secret roads behind the back of the Russian troops.
