Surrender negotiations in Narva

to map

19. November 1700 time 20:00

Around eight at night the new commander in chief of the Russian troops started the negotiations with the Swedes of Prince Dolgoruki.

The Russians got the right to leave the battlefield with guns, but without flags. For that purpose they had to fix the broken bridge under the guard of the Swedes, thus the leave of the Russian troops started only at four in the morning.

At the left wing of Russia the general Weide with its 15 000-head footmen had stayed in the positions. The Swedes asked the captured Prince Dolgoruki to send its messenger with the surrender exhortation to Weide side which enabled Weide to leave freely, but without guns.

The soldiers took food and other stuff along only as much they could carry. Such proposal was also accepted.
