16. May 1343

After the battle of Sõjamäe, the Order gathered the citizens of Tallinn and the vassals of Harju-Viru, and made a deal with them. This happened on May 16 1343. According to the deal, the Order gained control over Tallinn, Rakvere and Narva; its supremacy was also temporarily established in the rest of Estonia. This meant that the Danish era had ended in Estonia, even though officially it stood for another three years. The Order hurried to anticipate the Swedes, who were about to reach Tallinn, and to secure the acquisition of Estonia. Forces of the Order in that region were lead by the man second to the Master, the commander or Viljandi, Goswin von Herike.
