Bitter frost pinched Estonia also in 1966, when -30-35, occasionally -41 degrees C were recorded on the mainland, -34 C on the islands.

The second coldest winter was in 1978, when the lowest temperature was measured in Narva, -42,6 degrees. In the rest of Estonia, temperatures were around -40 C.
Coldest winters in Estonia have been 1940, 1941, 1978 and 1956.
