Meeting of cities and vassals in Tallinn

On 17-20 July 1524 the meeting of the Livonian vassals and cities was held in Tallinn where on 19 July the union for the protection of reformation was founded. Saare-Lääne knighthood was especially reformation-minded which hoped to direct this union right against Johann Kievel.

Georg von Ungern, representative of Läänemaa vassals, also spoke most boldly in the name of the new religion, by requiring its declaration all over Livonia.
The public religion dispute was planned to be organized with the ones sure in Catholicism to clarify which religion is better. This was supposed to be organized in the county council. It was also decided that when the catholic clerics do not agree to accept the new religion, the freedom of religion should be guaranteed.
